  27.                     a sure heart stopper himself. Of course the cue
  28.                     bidder may have a heart void and no interest
  29.                     in notrump. If so, he will make this clear on
  30.                     the next round.

  40.                     have a huge two-suited hand.

  44. P    P    2S        Normal slam try cue bid, not a competitive cue
  45.                     bid. Opener bids notrump if his spade strength
  46.                     was needed for the opening bid, to warn of
  47.                     possible duplication.

  49. 1S   2D   P    3S   Demands that partner bid 3NT if with a spade
  50.                     stopper, unless she has a most unusual hand.
  51.                     This is a very strong call, showing something
  52.                     like S-65 H-AK7 D-Q8432 C-AK2.

  55.                     (because the overcall was in a major suit).

  58. 3NT                 Implies that opener would not have opened if

  60.                     duplication, in case the cue bidder has a void.
  61.                     Opener may even have an unbalanced     hand
  62.                     with five or six spades. With an opening bid
  63.                     outside the heart suit, opener should not bid
  64.                     3NT, even with KQJ of hearts.

  66. 1S   3C   P    3S   Asks for a partial spade stopper, in accordance
  67.                     with the principles of competitive cue bids at
  68.                     the three level (only one opponent has bid the
  69.                     suit). A strong jump overcall in a minor tends
  70.                     to show a solid suit or equivalent, so the 3C
  71.                     bidder needs a potential double stopper (e.g.,
  72.                     A10x, K10x) to bid 3NT if his suit is not
  73.                     solid.
